On Thursday, I had the opportunity to visit the Kaatza Station Museum and Archive in Lake Cowichan. In their collection, they had a wide range of photos and articles about Chinese, Indian and Japanese workers. However, their display “The Chinese … a forgotten treasure” stood out to me. It holds a large gravestone with Chinese characters . The curators told me that there was a Chinese graveyard located outside of the Youbou mill and is said to be of Zheng Weijing. Not much is known other than what is written on the display bio (below). However, many questions are left surrounding Zheng Weijing’s life.
In approximately 2002, the museum acquired the grave.
